These tough, factory-built trucks are ready to take on challenging terrains like rocks, dirt, sand, and rugged trails.
If you’re in the market for a new off-road-ready pickup truck, you're in luck. Every major pickup manufacturer has jumped into the off-road segment, offering models equipped with more than just decals and enhanced suspension systems. These trucks are built to dominate the wild, with features like large tires, skidplates, rock rails, and high-tech dampers. They provide both comfort and performance, and they’re designed to handle everything from backcountry roads and sand dunes to mountain trails.
Here are 18 of the most capable off-road trucks available today, listed in alphabetical order. While these aren’t the only vehicles suited for off-roading, they represent some of the most powerful and feature-packed trucks on the market.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 / GMC Canyon AT4X

If you're in the market for a strong midsize off-roading truck, look no further than the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and its cousin, the GMC Canyon AT4X. These trucks feature a 3.5-inch wider track and a 3.0-inch higher ride height compared to the standard Colorado, equipped with 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Their suspension is top-notch, offering 9.9 inches of wheel travel at the front and 11.6 inches at the rear, supported by Multimatic DSSV dampers. The ZR2 and AT4X come with practical stainless-steel rock sliders, front and rear electronic locking differentials, high-clearance bumpers, robust skidplates, and an off-road mode that deactivates on-road annoyances like traction and stability control, ensuring a smooth trail experience.

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 / GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X

Newly introduced in 2022, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 and the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X return with minimal changes for 2025. These two full-size trucks are the most capable off-roaders from General Motors and certainly belong on this list. Because their mechanical specs are similar, they’re grouped together, though their designs are quite different.
Both the AT4X and ZR2 feature Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers at all four corners, rock sliders, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and a Terrain mode for one-pedal driving on trails. These trucks also boast increased wheel travel, protected dual exhaust tips, and revamped interiors with massive 13.4-inch touchscreens, 12.3-inch digital instrument clusters, and a 15.0-inch head-up display. The standard powertrains include a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel inline-six or an optional 6.2-liter V-8 engine.

2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X / Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD ZR2

Chevrolet and GMC have invested considerable engineering expertise into their ZR2 and AT4X series, making them much more than just decals and badges. In 2024, the Silverado 2500HD ZR2 and the Sierra 2500HD AT4X joined the lineup, completing the heavy-duty family of off-roaders. Based on the 2500HD Crew Cab, these trucks offer either a 6.6-liter gasoline V-8 or a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V-8 engine.
For the suspension, these trucks get a 1.5-inch lift both front and rear, which allows them to fit 35-inch tires. A full-size spare tire with a pressure sensor is mounted under the bed for convenience. The front suspension is equipped with custom upper and lower control arms and ZR2-specific steering knuckles. Damping is handled by larger Multimatic DSSV shocks, and a rear electronic locking differential is available for use at any speed. The underbody features skidplates that protect the critical components from trail damage.

The Invisible Perfume Factory Hidden Inside Every Meerkat

The Invisible Perfume Factory Hidden Inside Every Meerkat

Imagine a meerkat standing in the South African sunshine. It gazes across the horizon with dark eyes. It lowers its tiny body and rubs against a rocky surface. It looks like a simple stretch or a scratch. It is actually something much more complex. The animal leaves a message behind in the scent. The true authors of this note are tiny bacteria living within its body. Biologists have long understood that these animals use scent to communicate. They mark bushes and rocks to define their territory. They show their breeding status and social dominance this way. Science has only recently uncovered why these smells are so distinct and diverse. The answer lies in the microscopic world of living bacteria.
